Yearbook teacher brings home Kansas State Fair honors

Yearbook teacher brings home Kansas State Fair honors

Phyllis D'eugenio, photo imaging and yearbook teacher at Maize High School, proved that a little friendly competition, and plenty of pumpkin bread, can lead to big results!

At the beginning of the school year, she had staff members taste-test three different versions of her pumpkin bread to help decide which recipe had what it takes to compete at the Kansas State Fair. The winning recipe, her pumpkin-craisin bread, went on to earn third place at the State Fair!

Her success didn’t stop there. She also took first place for tallest sunflower with an impressive sunflower measuring 179.5 inches tall. Her sunflower photograph also earned her a second place ribbon.

After a successful year at the fair, she’s already planning for next year. She says she’ll tweak her pumpkin bread recipe and hopes to take home first place next time!
