Students make the most of phone-free lunch

Students make the most of phone-free lunch

With the new Kansas law limiting cell phone use in schools, lunch at Maize High School looks a little different this year.

To help students have an engaging lunch period, games and cards have been purchased for students to use while they spend time together. UNO, checkers, chess, Connect Four and other games have become popular choices around the cafeteria.

Students are also spending more of their lunch period talking and catching up with friends. The cafeteria may be a little louder than it has been in the past, but the extra noise comes from students talking, laughing, and enjoying time together.

While the change has taken some adjustment, students are finding new ways to stay engaged and connect with each other during lunch.
